Kyōken originally acted like Oikawa wasn't worth listening to until his trainer got Scary one time when angry at someone disrespecting him and his Pokémon.

A very stubborn bird determined to join Oikawa's team, he named him Ushiwaka due to the bird's persistence reminding him of the boy. Not too thrilled to have a bird that reminds him of his rival back home at first, Oikawa's warmed up to the bird due to proving his strength, though was very surprised to see that instead of evolving into a regular Braviary he became a Hisuian version. Luckily for Oikawa, Ushiwaka has no intentions of making Oikawa his next meal.
