Kyōken is very competitive and still somewhat defiant with his trainer, though listens to him most of the time due to Oikawa having earned his trust through hard work and determination, as well as his trainer having a fairly scary side when angry. Kyōken originally acted like Oikawa wasn't worth listening to until his trainer got Scary one time when angry at someone disrespecting him and his Pokémon.
